Closet Doors

Closet doors may seem like the most simple thing to pick out and install, but lets look at the process many home owners face and see in what situations you should call a professional instead of doing it yourself. Lets begin with the first challenge home face, and this is to pick out a style of doors and then a certain finish to match furniture in the room or the architecture in the room. Depending on if the furniture is built in, most of the time better to match the architecture in the room. For example, other door frames, door styles and hardware finishes as this will help give the room a more put together look.

Once all of these basic factors are in place next you will want to find the correct door sizes for your closet. For this you will need to know how to measure for a closet, if you are not certain there are tutorials online or if you are buying from a major supplier of prefabricated closet doors they may be able to help you as well. Next is the installation of the doors and if they are prefabricated they should come with installation instructions as most of the time the track systems are fairly simple. If you are considering a custom closet door job however it is best to let the experts do their job and install it themselves.

Things to think about before selecting a company for custom design:

  • Do they ship directly to your city or country? Most websites for manufacturers will display this information on a page of its own within their website so make sure you check it. The last thing you want to have happen is to order an item which can not be shipped directly to you. This goes for custom and in stock orders, you don’t want to waste your time especially if you are in a time crunch.
  • Make sure that the company working for you is conscious of time frames you may have up front. Don’t rely on them to remember, it should always be your duty to stay on top of the matter and call in from time to time to make sure everything is ok. In the long run this will save you tons of headaches as well and chances are that you will get your product on time and without mistakes.
  • Have the company come in to look at where the closet doors will be installed to make sure there wont be any problems with the design. This goes for every kind of door, including sliding closet doors, bi-folding doors and especially mirrored closet doors. You never know what unforeseen issues there may be, once the product is manufactured you cant go back and fix dimensions without wasting time and money.
  • Where are they being installed? A restroom? A laundry closet? A linen closet? All of these locations will see moisture in the coming years because of their nature. You will want to make sure that the tracks on the closet doors you will be installing if any are of high quality and will not rust or even derail over time. If they are made of wood make sure they are coated with the appropriate finish to avoid water damage.
